Anything is possible but no you won't be able to make it work.

welll a Dmax engine is over 13 G Canadian anyhow, figuew a major front end redo, as the weight of a Dmax is crazy.....HOWEVER GM mad a 1/2 wiht a 6.5 a few years back, there are a few kicking around so it is possible but not for a reasonable amount of $$.......

This article is about installing a 6.6 into a 89 K1500. They actually replaced the dash for electrical reasons. Hey don't forget to add to your bill an Allison trans. Being that the 4l60e can barely handle the 5.3l, I doubt it will handle the Duramax (assuming the housing matches up). I hope this article completely turns you off to this project. Sometimes I consider myself optimistic, but my gut is telling me this is going to be an expensive undertaking on your part. But if you do decide to take on this project can I have your engine and trans for my 65 chevy? j/k

It would be cheaper to trade in.  I saw some H2's converted to the Duramax that had a 90-100K sticker.
