I have an 82 Chevy Caprice that has a 4.4L 267 in it, I was wondering if I could do an engine swap and drop a 5.7L 350 in there? Will it fit? The old 267 I have in it, smokes bad, and I was told it needs a ring job, rather than spend the money on repairs I rather just get a bigger and better engine, if it will work.

what I found on the 267 is..that it is a debored version of the 305. I know for a fact that the 305 and 350 share the same trans but I cant really do you any justice on that 4.4 of yours. but, I also read that the 82 caprice only came with an option of 2 automatic transmissions. so I think your trans will match.
my best advise is this....if your trying to get your caprice running good and powerful spent the time and money on a 350. if you want to just keep the car to get you from point A to B, then stick to what its got..

the other thing with the 350 is the rear end
they made 3 rear ends for the caprice make sure you get the one for 11inch drums
i think its the same as the old fleetwoods

I have a few friends that are big into Chevys in particular... I have an '82 Wagon and all information I have received has said yes to a 350 swap. Of course, I have the 700R-4 tranny and limited slip differential. I don't know what tranny yours would have come with, but I'd upgrade if it came with the other one. The rear diff would be the next thing I'd look at.
