those with black 07 tahoes how do you wash your trucks i hate swirl marks and ive read the how to avoid the swirl marks on here too
but im still getting them and im waxing my tahoe with the maquires ntx wax is this how im putting swirl marks on im waxing by hand
and i wash my tahoe early in the morning hardly any sun out and under car port and i dont even wipe it dry i air blow it dry with my air hose. i do this asuming that if i dont dry it with a chammy or microfiber cloth that i will avoid swirl marks i also dip my mit in clean water after i wash a spot and then soap it again i let watter run down rather than direct spray etc. ??????????????????/

how do yall do it i dont want to put any more swirl marks on it or im going to have to glaze this new hoe out ???????????????\
thank in advance any reply will help and post what you wash it with etc. if possable thanks

I have a black hoe and I never wash in circles. Always back and forth in the direction of air flow. I think black will always show swirls, especially in sunlight. I also use 2 buckets, one with clean water and a screen on the bottom to settle the dirt to the bottom. I basically follow the suggestions at this post http://www.chevroletforum.com/m_813/tm.htm. I bought some of the products they suggest too. I think a good mit and quality soap goes a long ways.

I am sorry to say but I have had three black cars and all of them soon or later get swirl marks. You are doing all the right things. I guess one would say stop buying black cars. What can I say they look nice....

I have had several black vehicles and the best thing to use to get rid of the swirls is the Meguires Cleaner Wax. It will get rid of the swirls. When you apply it it is best to use an orbital buffer and it will get rid of the swirl. The ntx is a great wax but it will not get rid of the swirls.

thankx guys for the responses i do everything the article says as well with two buckets etc. let watter run down etc wash it in the shade i also wash it sides ways not in circles i even tried washing it with the touch free car wash that would cost me 6 bucks a wash
and it worked great for a while till i noticed that it sometimes doesnt take all of the dirt off so i decided to follw the article as well
and did but ive noticed swirl markes in the sunlight from close up in an angle and i hate it but i understand its hard to avoid
but i think that im butting swirl markes with the waxing the car itself. how do yall wax your cars and how do you apply it and with what
do you apply it with im going to swap out to maquires cleaner wax today and try it i apply the wax by hand thinking its best rather than by buffer etc. what do yall sudgest ???

Junior, I use my orbital buffer to put on the cleaner wax and wipe it off by hand. I had swirl marks in my paint also and after using the cleaner wax the swirls were gone. It took 3/4 bottle of the liquid stuff to do it all but it was well worth the effort. I have not used the cleaner wax that comes in the tub I use the bottle an have had great results. I would be very suprised if it does not get the swirls out. Post back and let me know how it works out.

A tip I picked up on how to determine if a cloth was suitable to use for waxing polishing, etc was to take a CD (I use AOLs that I get about once a week) and rub it. If it scratches the CD, it'll scratch your paint.

RedBoat so you use the liguid cleaner wax instead of the wax in the tub i havent had time to wax the the truck yet
another question i have on our new 07 tahoes do you think we should clay it will the clay bar scratch it itself or will it be safe to use a clay bar on the new paint ill let you know redboat as soon as i get a chance maybe this weekend ill prep up my hoe very nice
i still havent had a chance to install my gm lock pick for the nav and dvd overide etc... but hopefully i will this weekend
how many times do you wax your car every week or month i quess it depends how often you wash it too
ive read somewhere that waxing your cars age the paint faster ???

Junior, I used the Zaino clay bar and Zaino wax the first week after I brought the Hoe home. I used the clay bar just cause (just cause im anal)! I really did not notice any diffrence after using the clay bar probably because the finish was in new but I wanted to start with the cleanest possible finish before waxing. I used the Zaino wax first, then after 2 weeks I used some stuff called ProFinish from Stylin Concepts and that really deepened the finish. My Hoe has the Dark Blue finish.
If you do want to use the clay bar on your car wash it with Dawn dish soap first and that will strip every bit of wax off of your finish.
I use the Meguires cleaner wax on my Black Ford F-250 Super Duty (and other black vehicles I have owned) with excellent results. I dont think there is any diffrence between the tub and the bottle I just prefer using the bottle. I only use the cleaner wax once a year and the Pro Finish in between.
I wash my cars once a week pretty religiously even in the winter. I also treat the leather every other wash with the Zaino leather treatment.
I generally wax my vehicles about every 4-6 months. I keep my cars a very long time so I try to keep them looking good.
Waxing your car often does not age the paint it actually puts a coating over the paint and protects the finish and really keeps it looking new.

I too have a black 07 tahoe, I use the Zaino product. I have been washing my truck about once a week. I use a sheepskin mit, using the Zaino car wash going from top to bottom. I use two different mitts, one for the top and one for the bottom. I also started using a cotton towel to dry my truck, use the colored ones b/c white shows too much dirt. After I dried it I applied the Zaino polish ZX2( i think) also for touch up i use the high gloss detailer for in between washes. ZAINO products work well I don't have any swirls....by the way I use 100% cotton white t-shirts to touch up with the detailer. Also if it gets dusty then just use the california duster. Using the clay bar will help, it just sounds like you have swirls b/c of the clear coat, getting swirls not the paint.

I used to have this stuff called Swirless that a bodyshop gave me. It was extremely easy to apply and kept the paint looking wet thus getting rid of any swirl marks. You an also polish and wax from time to time with meguires. After you wash the vehicle a few times, the polish and wax will naturally wash away leaving you with swirls. Having a black car is painful. My 07 Impala SS is black and I've had black vehicles for the last 15 years. It's just part of the deal and it's never easy.

Most places that sell car care products will have Zymol. Try hardware or paint stores for cheesecloth.

My preference is microfiber cloth. Just started using them with the Tahoe after using whatever clean rag I could find on previous vehicles. Lightyears of difference IMO.

Meguiars NXT is not a good product to "repair" paint. If your paint is in good condition it is great for shine. It's not even a good protector and doesn't last as long as convential waxes. (meguiars will even admit that) If you want to improve your paint condition use a polish or scratch X and then wax with your favorite shine/protector wax. You don't have to get cleaner waxes for regular use.

Great info on swirl removal:

What is cheesecloth? Sorry for the ignorance!

What other cloths are people using to apply wax?

JUNIOR:

I'm using them for wax haze removal, detailing spray, and cleaning windows.

Meguiars has a 1, 2, 3 part system that will probably take care of your swirls. Would recommend you get an orbital buffer because it takes a lot of elbow grease.

Once you get your swirls removed, recommended only using straight line rubbing in the direction of the long axis of the truck.

Cheesecloth is a very coarse weave cloth. Can be used in furniture finishing. I used it to strain lumps out of wall paint.

You can buy the Zaino product direct www.zainostore.com They have a variety of products.  I have bought the polish, high gloss detailer, tire treatment(works great) stays black even when it rains.  I use the Meg's NXT wash b/c I ran out of the wash from Zaino.  Cheesecloths I believe you buy them at the hardware store or the grocery store.  They are used to strain liquids from any impurities.  Just go out and buy some fruit of the loom t-shirts (100% cotton)  they work great to get rid of the polish as well as detailing afterward with quick detailers.

Go with the detailer cloths.  With cotton tees, you have threads and labels to worry about.  To check out any type of cloth for suitability on your paint, see if it'll scratch a CD.  Use one of those AOL ones.
