I have an 08 Siverado. I ordered some key fobs with the remote start button, their just like the ones the dealer would have gotten. I went to have them programthe truck so I could use it. The dealer tells me I have to buy ther kit so he can get some number off of it to call GM and get the program. So now instead if it costing around 120 bucks the price now jumps to 325. Do I have to buy their kit to get the number to use to call GM or is there away around this? BTW my truck has the remote feature preinstalled.

Your vehicle might have the AP8 code, which is the long range key fob reciever, but your truck needs a software update. GM is the only one that can rewrite the BCM, so it will accept the remote start comand thru LAN bus data.
The only way GM can re-coupe their "investment" for remote start is to sell it as a upgrade kit. The kit consist of 2 keyfobs, instructions and a authorization code. The authorization code is called in to GM VIS by a GM dealer (authentication Dealer code required), then GM VIS enters authorization code and rewrites a software update for the BCM, TDM (theft deterant Module) and they have to relearn the airbags.

My 07 2500 HD NBS did not come stock with the remote start
but i went back and they put it in for 95.98 installed
and they reprogramed my old 2 as well so i have the 2 they gave me with the remote start
and the 2 that came that all work for under 100.00

I guess I'm going to have to call around and see what I can find out.
