99 suburban cd player not working

I have a 99 suburban with a factory cd player which is separate from the rest of the radio/tape player. When I place a cd in, it goes in but the player spits it back out and displays "Err". Any ideas how this can be fixed? If it can't be repaired is it possible to hook up an mp3 player through an aux input?
