just got this car and there is a noise coming from what i think is the drivers side rear that sounds like a rubbing or a squeaking. Maybe the strut bushings i thought, but anyone ever have this problem to know exactly what it is?

it my be a tire rubbing or your brake draging a bit. try jacking the car up and see if you can roll the tire easly if you cant it is likely your brake. hope this helps.

it only seems to happen when the car moves up or down so i am thinking something with the strut... would the brake rubbing have the same symptoms?

Does it do it when you hit the bake or stop when you hit the brake?
If it does it when you just drive around corners and bumps so on and so forth check you complete suppension, probalbly could use all new bushings. It may be shocks/struts, but it sound to me like a bad bushing somewhere in the suppension.

most of the time they will be brittle and crakced, if the struts are old it wouldn't hurt to replace them, but it could be the springs or something like that too.

if i push down on the rear end it makes a noise, not the same one as i hear when driving, but its still a squeak.. does that sound like struts or bushings?

I couldn't tell you. It is hard to tell even when you are at the car, but if you can have someone push the car down (if you have room) and listen for it, that would be about the best way to find it.
That could be your springs too.
