87 Cavalier auto shifter knob removal

Is there a trick to removing the shifter knob on this 87 automatic cavalier?

The side button will not push the release mechanism down far enough to be able to move the shifter.

There is a slot in the lower front of the knob that looks like it has a release pin that if pushed would release the knob but it wont budge.

Any help is appreciated.

Actually that release pin needs to be pulled out ,, i had to do that yesterday to get the shifter off my 92 cav and i think it was the same deal for the 87 i had.
