My dad has a '63 Impala SS with an inline 6 and a 3spd on the column. Is this a rare '63 or were they pretty common? He's thinking about selling it for like 2 or 2.5Gs so he can start restoring his '64 but I'm gonna try to convince him to keep it at least until I can afford to buy it.

The inline/column shift combo is pretty rare. Usually you see floorshift 4-speeds manuals with the 327. I don't know what the value is, but it really depends on the condition.

The 6 cyl/3spd combo is uncommon on a Impala SS so I guess you could call it "rare". Back in those days you could order a car with just about any combination of equipment you wanted. However ---- just because a car is "rare" does not mean it has a higher value or is more desirable and that is the case with the car you have, it is rare but actually has a lesser value than a V8 car. In fact "Old Cars Price Guide" says to deduct 10% for 6cyl ImpalaSS.  So unless this car is in very good condition or you are a real purest yank that inline & give it a V8 !!!    Also you might want to check to make sure it is a real SS.

Its rather uncommon, though I don't think its worth more than $2500. It would take about 20 years before it would be worth anything over that.

Honeslty, I would keep it in my barn and slowly restore it over the next ten years. Then one day I would take it to a car show and see what conspires.
