sweet 6 speed! I guess this means delaying my Tahoe order until 2009...

any EPA MPGs on the 6 speed?

Everyone seems to be adding more gears (5-6 speed autos)... is it worth the weight?

I see ford uses a 5 speed right? but the chevy 4 speed gets more MPG...

Will they give us a flappy paddle gearbox too?

Two gears don't weigh all that much.

Ford uses a 6-speed in Expedition.

Anybody else care to answer why a Chevy (that has more horsepower and fewer gears) gets better fuel economy than Ford's best effort?

The 2009 Tahoe 4X4, 5.3L w/6-speed auto is projected to get 15/20 MPG.

I'm curious if there will be any changes to exterior/interior color selections? I've seen white diamond in person on a Tahoe and it is stunning. Blue granite is pretty sharp too!

If the milage is the same; then why add more gears?

I'll take a stab.  Maybe Tahoes are lighter, more aerodynamic, Ford's sandbagging hp, 5.3 is more efficient, . . .

Just guessing.

all good reasons for the MPG.

What are the advantages of the 6 speed vs the 4?

2 more gears = less drastic ratio difference between each gear change (close ratio), this results in smother operation and the engine will not fall out of its power band after the transmission selects the next gear.

New features available for the 2009 model year Tahoe are:

6.2L Engine on 2WD and 4WD.
6-Speed Auto Trans (standard).
Heated and Cooled Front Seats.
Integrated BlueTooth for phone.
110V Power Outlet.
Integrated Trailer Brake Control.
Side Blind Zone Alerting System.
XM Real Time Traffic Integrated into Navigation System.

Rumor has it, ZX knows his stuff  so I don't mean to question......

  • Can this be taken to the bank?
  • Possible additions / or removals?
  • Is this true for the Yukon / Denali as well?
  • And a final speculation question - Will these be available when production starts in July / August?  I know sometimes new features are only available months after production start.

The reason I ask is I am (was?) close to buying a 2008 Denali until I read this post!  All of the features (aside from the lane departure, 6 speed and 6.2L) are worth waiting for in my book.

Thanks for the info!  I've been a lurker for a while and just wanted a little clarification.

As in the past some of these items may end up having interim model year availability but as it stands right now they are expected to be offered at the initial time of 2009 model year ordering/production.

Thanks.  I guess I'll just sit back and (im)patiently wait until 2009 order time.

*complaining*

I just found out that they are offering 0% on 2009 Yukons (and other GMT900s?).  Talk about making the decision to wait or not, difficult.

The 0.0% APR is not on 09's it is on 2008 models since the 2009 Yukon and Tahoe are not even out yet.
And the 0.0% is not only offered on 1500 series GMT900 products, not 2500 HD or 3500 HD.

Sorry - this was a poorly written message by me.

What I meant to say is now I'm tempted to get an 08 at 0% vs. waiting for the cool new features of 2009.

I'm torn to say the least!

That's the whole idea behind the incentive.

Dave,

I'm also torn whether to order an '08 Tahoe right now, while I still can, or wait and order an '09 model in May.

Can you tell me if the 5T4 special victory red body parts paint option will be only available on the 1LS models in 2009, just like it is in 2008?  If I could get a 1LT with that option, I'll wait and order an '09 model.  Otherwise I might as well go ahead and order the '08 model I guess.

Oh, one more thing:  for the '08 model Tahoes, is there a good chance that the 0% financing or the $2,000 cash back will continue for the months to come?

It would be my luck to order one, have it delivered in May and find out that all incentives have ended.

Hey ZX, Do you know if owners of 07/08 Tahoes will be able integrate bluetooth into their current vehicles? Would it be able to be added by the dealer after 2009's come out?

There is talk of an accessory kit but no official word yet.

I wondering if this is it: http://www.chevroletforum.com/fb.asp?m=63574

Is this usually around May of 2008 ZX1100F1?

ZX,
great information.  do you happen to know if the 2009 2500 Suburban is going to offer a diesel option?  there have been many rumours but i cannot find anything definite.  i use my 2007 2500 exclusively for towing a heavy trailer and it is perfect except for power on the mountain climbs.

No diesel being offered in 2500 Suburban in 09, it's going to be a few years before we see that.
We will see the new diesel in 1500 series products first.

The 09 Tahoes shoudl start hitting dealers showrooms in late June early July,

***newbie and learning the different boards***

This is crazy, I just took ownership (3 months ago) of a new 07 and you guys are already talking about ordering 09's.... Sheeesh.

Mind you I do feel I got a pretty good deal on it at $3,000 below dealer cost and 0% financing. I managed to convince the dealer than having an 07 on the lot for the same price as an 08 made no sense.

The 09 Tahoe Hybrid will be packaged similarly to the 2008 (PEG 1HY).

Some new features will be standard such as: XM Nav Traffic, Bluetooth, Auto Dimming ISRV mirror, Power Adjustable pedals,
Blue Granit paint will also be available.
