What is the facory tint specs on the front two doors, and the rest of the rear of the tahoe? Is it 35% front, and 20% rear? Or 50% front, 35% rear?

I want to tint all the windows but still be able to see out the sides and rear of the vehicle. I am thinking about putting on 35% front two, and 20% on all the rear windows. What does everything think? Any pictures of anyone who has this combination?

Lastly, on ebay there are complete 2007 tahoe tint kits for around $25+14 S&H. Has anyone tried these kits? They are all precut. I was just wondering how much of a challenge it would be to get the tint put on and look like it was professionally done? Thanks, Landon.

I just had the front two windows tinted, it cost me 60 bux.. I went as dark as legally could in Texas(which I dont know the actual percentage). From the outside its a little lighter then the rear, but looks good. On the inside however, the aftermarket stuff looks to have a greenish tint to it whereas the factory has a bluish tint.

Doesnt really bother me but kinda surprising...I thought tint was tint..but apparently not..

Thanks for the reply. I have had all of my vehicles tinted in the past. However the factory tint on the tahoe is darker than any other vehicle I have had. I would like to tint all the windows darker, I just want to make sure I know the percentage that is on the vehicle from the factory before i pay to have the windows tinted darket and it turns out to dark and is difficult to see out the rear of the vehicle.

Thanks again for the repsonse!

The factory tint specs on the 07 Tahoe are 70% front (windscreen as well) and the rear is 16%.

I've got 35 on my front 2 windows and they match the factory tint on the back two pretty good. It's pretty hard to see in unless my sunroof is open on a sunny day.

Yeah, I had the front done 35, along with the rest of the vehicle.. I had them tint over the factory and it is dark!!!! Can't see inside unless the sunroof is open and the windows rolled down....see thru the rear window. You can go darker for the driver and passenger windows, just don't get caught. Here in Texas, the DPS will cut an huge X in your tint. Here they have a device they put on the window to let them now percentage of light going thru. By the way I went with factory tint...just b/c I wanted to get it down before I took it home.

Dave:

I'm a little shocked at your response. I live in Michigan and from my knowledge it is illegal to have any tint on your front driver side and passenger windows below 5 inches from the top of the window. I very well could be mis-informed on the law, but I know most tint places in my neck of the woods won't touch a driver/passenger door. I've added 5% to all my rear windows, I think it looks sweet. It would be a pain to back up without the reverse camera, but with the camera you can back up with ease.

Thanks for the info Dave, that is exactly what I wanted to know. What is your source for all of your knowledge or answers on here?

Jasonw75, I live in Missouri and the law here is that anything driver shoulders forward has to be 35% or lighter. Of course you can not put tint on your front windshield except a brow which i believe can go down a certain number of inches!

Yes for the brow, if you look at the top of the winshield there is a mark with I think a T w/ ATS under it. You are not allowed to go any further below that line across. Laws differ of course in different states but for the majority it is 35 and for the rear dark as you want with the exception of passenger cars with 4 doors of a quarter window. They have to be legal 35. The reason you see a lot of SUV dark is b/c most of them come with factory tint in the window then they apply another film on top of that to make it darker.

Let's just say that; some of you are enjoying some of my handiwork in regards to your GMT800 and 900 series trucks and leave it at that.

Jason,
Federal law allows for up to 70% visible light transmission (VLT) on the front windows and windscreen. Up until about 5-10 years ago GM would just barely tint the glass (97%) and on some of the least expensive models they would use no tint at all.
Over the years there have been a few changes in things like Air Conditioning were the industry has been forced from R12 and into R134a Freon, the current Freon and A/C units are not nearly as effective at cooling the interior as the old R12 systems so we now use a little darker tint to help compensate for this shortcoming, you’ll notice that 70% is still very light but it does block out a good portion of sunlight causing heat and damaging UV rays.

You can check the markings on your glass, the VLT % is clearly labeled on each piece.

Dave:

I'm definitely not going to bother to check myself, as I have found everything else you say on here to be just the facts.

Remember that tint laws vary from state to state. The state law CAN be more strict than Federal law. Ie Feds may allow tint and State may restrict it or limit it.

If it matters to you what your state will permit then check first. A lot bad info out there on the subject. (not referring to info on here)
The following is an exerpt from PA law. If you scroll down you will see light transmission % for each type of vehicle broken down by window location. Pass Cars are 70% all around. Nothing darker than our current front sides as a way of comparison...
Trucks etc are different.

Stupid question what is everyone calling the windscreen? I have an idea but I sure dont want to make a WRONG guess.

Lastly, I checked my tahoe windows. Sure enough right on the window it says 70 on the front drivers window, and the rear window says 16. Dam I learn something everyday from Dave.

ONe more question for anyone to answer. Since the front has 70 and rear has 16 what overall percentage would the front and rear be if I added 35% to every window? Thanks guys.

Landon,
To answer the second part of your question; the kits sold on Ebay are generally nicely cut tint of lesser quality, there is a serious amount of skill and art form involved in applying tint; Don't attempt to do it at home, there is a 99.9% chance that you won’t be satisfied with your application and you will wind up taking it in and having it re-done by a local tint shop anyway.
I’m speaking from experience (I tried it myself last week).

biglg,
The answer to your question(s) are windshield and 6%

Do you know what the answer is for what the factory tint would be if you put 35 on over it? Thanks Dave.

Sorry, I should have read your post more thoroughly;
The front would be 25% and the rear 6% after putting 35% over the factory tint (in other word; pretty damn dark).

The total combined average (equating all windows average) would be 16%

Thank you very much.

That is exactly the amount I was looking for. HOwever, I have no idea how you came up with that.

I was going to put 20% in the rear but I dont want it any darker that 6% in the rear. So I guess I want just 35% in the rear!

Biglg,

I did put some tint over the factory and think it is 35 as well in the rear. It sure is much darker and can't see inside, but I also have the black interior....still dark

I have the casmere/ebony interior. I just dont want the rear so dark I cant see out of at night, no rear camera.

The front legal limit here is 35%. I dont want to go much darker. ONce I had ONE beer after a round of golf and would hate to get stopped if I had the urge to have one more beer after a round and drive home.

I will let you know that it is hard to almost impossible to see out the rear window, I have to use the rear camera and the side mirrors.

Multiply the existing transmission (70%) by the added tint transmission (35%) and viola, you get approx 25%.

Just a word on transmission less than 35%, it's a bitch driving at nite.

I had the same bad results the first time I tried tinting myself. After watching a couple of pros do it several times and seeing some of the tricks of the trade which the instructions conveniently leave out, I found that I can do an acceptable job on side glass. I'd never try a compound curve like a rear hatch on the Camaros. Watched a pro do mine and it is pretty tedious and more opportunity to mess up.

I did the ebay kit for $25 shipped and had good results. i took off the door panels and it looks pretty good. A few imperfections due to small dirt, but overall good. I went with 20% and it is looks just a hair darker than the rear. You can't really tell unless you really inspect it. And so far so good driving at night. I just have to roll down a window to backup in dark areas so I can see the sideview good.

It sounds like 35% is what i want to put on my tahoe. I would like the front to be darker, however i dont want to be pulled over for the reason of tint darkness. That will make my tint about 25% front, and about 5% rear which is perfect. Thanks again for everyones help and information.
