hello im new here but ne ways.. i just recently traded my ford 250 6.0 diesel in for a chevrolet 2500hd 05 model.. i like it better the ford was always in the shop and driving me nuts. so i was wandering about the reliability on the 05 chevy 2500hd? it was made 02/05... any problems? i notice when i crank it or take off theres like a rattling type thing coming from the exhuast? and thats about it so far ive put 500 miles on it since friday. i hope it last me ..

A rattle in the exhaust is usually an indication of a bad catatylic converter. I think the warranty on emission control devices is 5 yr 80K miles.

My ex's dad has the exact same truck , 05' 2500 4x4 and has the exact same rattle you are describing. I dont know what it was but I do know that it is apparently a common problem. Good luck with it.

That would be my guess as well.

I have a 2000 5.3 and they all rattle (almost like smoker) when you drive off cold. Brothers LS1 Firehawk does it too. GM says it is normal. Mine has done it for 225,000 KM. Gm says it is piston slap due to closer tolerances. Goes away after 2 blocks.
