02 won't start

I have a 02 venture recently when you use the keyless entry sometimes it won't work then when you get in it won't start., and the gauge needles flicker up and down. I just replaced the battery my next guess is to replace the pos. cable. soon after this started it was corroded so I cleaned it with baking soda it cleaned up but could that possibly have done irreversable damage?
