Help! We got this van in early 03, used, with already 27000+ miles on it. It has a passenger side sliding door which we cannot use because the new fuses we put in keep blowing. Could this be an electrical problem? That's my guess, but I wanted to check here first to see if anyone has had this problem and could advise on what to do, where to begin and who to take it to. We have other problems too (cigarette lighter, power window on passenger side, no back up lights), but this is my major concern right now. Thanks!

it sounds like a bad ground somewhere. its hard to tell without looking though. you would have to get someone to test the wiring for you. hope this helps.

Yes it's an electrical problem.

If fuses blow there is too much current draw in that electrical circuit for the rating of the fuse.

For example if the fuse is rated for 10 amps and it blows there is more than 10 amps being drawn through that circuit. There is a problem ... DON'T put in a larger fuse.

A faulty ground wouldn't be the cause , it would more often than not make the device work at all rather than blowing fuses. The common problem for blowing fuses is a short circuit , usually a bare wire ( with 12 volts ) touching the metal of the vehicle ( which is ground ).

In the case of the power sliding door , this is motorized , if the fuse blows right away then there is a short. If the fuse blows a short time after the door is being used it could be the motor. If there is some binding of the door or the mechanism this could be causing the motor to work harder , drawing too much current and blowing the fuse.
